URGENT: Brighton Center in Need!

Let’s use these stockpiles to do some good this week!

The Brighton Center–a food pantry and resource center for families in Northern Kentucky–is in desperate need of donations.  According to a story in the Enquirer on Tuesday, the Brighton Center stands to be OUT OF FOOD by Friday if donations aren’t received immediately!  I don’t know about you, but in the midst of the amazing freebies and growing stockpile I’m getting at the Kroger Mega Sale, this is totally unacceptable!

So, lets put our Coupon Power to excellent use.  Let’s fill their pantries!  The Brighton Center is a well-known and respected resource in our area.  They served 835 families in October–almost three times what they served in October 2008.  That means that 835 families will be without food in November if we do not act now!  And it means that other food agencies like the Freestore Foodbank, and the smaller food pantries that purchase their supplies from the Freestore, will be hit with all those families in need, putting themselves in jeapordy as well!

So what have you got that you can donate?  Macaroni and Cheese?  Cans of  Mandarin Oranges or Tropical Fruit?  How about some of the free Bumblebee Tuna?  Or can you donate money too?  The Brighton Center can feed a family of four for only $10 a day.  (LOL, most of us can do better!)

Today I will be putting together a drop off time and point when I will be there–and I will arrange some sort of giveaway for those who donate!  Please, begin culling your stockpile now–families are in urgent need!  I know they can accept dry goods and canned goods–I am unsure about refrigerated or frozen.  I have a call in to check on that.

The Brighton Center can be contacted by calling Bear Clifton at 859-491-8303 or by going to their website at www.brightoncenter.com.133 225x300 URGENT: Brighton Center in Need!

  1. Thank you for posting about this. I saw this on the news and was trying to figure out an exact address for drop off so if you find that out it would be helpful.

  2. IS there a place that we can drop off the food?
I can clean my pantry tonight!

    • I am arranging a large drop off time. Give me a few more minutes to get the kids on the bus and then I can sit down and come up with a plan. Basically, I’m trying to get some media coverage so that Brighton Center can tell their story a bit and get more attention for the need at local food banks!

  3. Definitely will be donating some items!! My husband was just saying last night that I needed to be cut off because we are running out of storage room! I hate the thought that someone is going without food when my pantry is overflowing!

  4. I saw this on momslikeme, and went down to my pantry and filled a huge bag to take over tomorrow. I noticed that someone mentioned donating via paypal…so that’s a cool option. I’ll be going to Kroger tomorrow to, and there is free tuna and free Yokasiba to be had. I would think the Yokasiba would be perfect, since it is a complete meal…absolutely free with the right coupon. You can pick it up free at Meijer as well. If they take frozen products…the single serve Tony’s pizza are free at Meijer until 11/15

  5. If you go to NKU or will be close to campus here’s another opportunity to donate….

    News from NKU…

    Wednesday – November 4, 2009
    For immediate release…

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Northern Kentucky University’s Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity will host a emergency drive to raise funds and supplies for the Brighton Center November 5-12 in the Student Union lobby.

The Brighton Center provides job, family, community, children and youth services to the Northern Kentucky area. Last year alone the center served over 66,000 individuals and families through 41 different programs. This year the center is finding it difficult to continue this commitment to the community as almost all funds have been depleted.

“The Brighton Center is a cornerstone of our community that needs our support,” said Mike Gardner, executive officer of Sigma Phi Epsilon. The center can use any type of monetary donation and is in need of the following items: canned meats, canned fruits and vegetables, canned soup, saltines, toothpaste, shampoo, baby diapers and wipes.

The emergency drive will run every day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will also be drop-off boxes in NKU’s residence hall lobbies.

  6. If you are collecting stuff to take over, please let me know. I don’t live to far from you. I could maybe meet you with some items.

  7. If you are in Amelia, Eastgate, Newtown, Anderson, Mt. Washington, etc. I’d be willing to meet up to pick up donations.
